ACB arrests six current and former Shirur tehsildars for demanding a ₹42-lakh-ransom in land NA case

PUNE: Six of the present and former tehsildars of Shirur have been caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for demanding a bribe of ₹42 lakh for making the land NA.



The arrested accused have been identified as former Tehsildar Ranjana Umarhade, current Tehsildars Swati Subhash Shinde, Sarfraz Deshmukh, and Atul Ghadge. 


Earlier, Ranjana  worked as a Tehsildar in the Shirur Tehsil Office. During that period in time, she had demanded ₹42 lakh from the complainant for NA of a trust land.  


In the meantime, she was transferred and replaced by Swati Shinde as Tehsildar.  She, along with Ranjana, assistant Sarfraz, Ghadge and Nimbalkar under the orders of Swati Shinde began harassing the complainant. She threatened to leave the task incomplete if he did not pay them a ransom of ₹42 lakhs. 


A team composed of Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe, Additional Superintendent of Police Suraj Gurav and Srihari Patil took this action.


In the Shirur Taluka, information has been revealed that a gang was working to make NA of the land and trust.
