PUNE: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cell of the CBI has arrested two senior officials of the Department of Telecommunications in a major operation in Pune. This action was carried out while accepting a bribe of ₹3 lakh for not sending an inquiry report to the company and not taking action through the DoT regarding the errors found during the inspection.
Both the arrested accused have been remanded to CBI custody till Thursday, September 22, 2022, by a CBI Special Judge, Shivaji Nagar, Pune.
Allegedly, the two officers arrested are Naresh Badawath, Assistant Divisional Engineer, Telecom (Technology) and Jayakumar Thorat Director, Technology-II. Badawath had demanded a bribe of ₹3 lakh to avoid DoT action regarding the irregularities.
Apparently, according to the complaint made to the CBI, the complainant said that a compromise was reached and a payoff of ₹2 lakh was reached.
