DGCA issues show cause notice to Spicejet Ltd
HARYANA: In light of the recent incidents of technical malfunction with regard to Spicejet flights in the last 18 days, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) India has issued a show cause notice to the air carrier.
Spicejet Ltd. was authorised to perform commercial air operations up to May 13, 2023 under Rule 134 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937. However, DGCA has issued a notice as Spicejet failed to operate promptly.
According to the notice, the reported incidents on the aircrafts operated by Spicejet Ltd. from April 1, 2022 to date have been reviewed and it has been observed that on a number of occasions, the aircraft either turned back to its originating station or continued landing to the destination with degraded safety margins; Whereas, the review transpires that poor internal safety oversight and inadequate maintenance actions have resulted in degradation of the safety margins.
"The financial assessment carried out by DGCA in September, 2021 has also revealed that airline is operating on Cash & Carry and Suppliers/Approved vendors are not being paid on regular basis leading to a shortage of spares and frequent invoking of MELs," the notice said.
Due to this Spicejet Ltd. had failed to establish safe, efficient and reliable air services under terms of Rule 134 and Schedule XI of the Aircraft Rules, 1937; Therefore, the accountable manager of Spicejet Ltd., has been asked to show cause within three weeks of receipt of the said notice as to why action should not be taken against the airline.
