MUMBAI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a charge sheet against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who is in its custody in connection with the Patra Chawl redevelopment case and NCP President Sharad Pawar’s name has also been mentioned in it. The chargesheet, which was filed on Monday, said that Raut attended meetings with MHADA officials and others for the redevelopment of Patra Chawl under the chairmanship of the then agriculture minister Sharad Pawar. The charge sheet said that, according to documents filed by MHADA Resident Engineer Prakash Sanap, on August 12, 2006, the then Union Agriculture Minister held a meeting at Yashwantrao Chavan Bhavan at Patra Chaal , Siddharthnagar. The meeting was attended by the Housing Secretary, Chief Executive Officer of the Mumbai Board of MHADA, along with Sanjay Raut and Thakkar Developer.
Due to this mention, it has been shown that Sharad Pawar is connected to the Patra Chawl case. In the charge sheet filed by the ED, Sanjay Raut is claimed to be the mastermind of the Patra Chawl scam. It has been alleged that Rakesh Wadhawan, Sarang Wadhawan, and Praveen Raut have laundered money in connivance. Sanjay Raut has knowingly committed money laundering of ₹3.27 crore as defined under Section 3 and is punishable under Section 4 of PMLA, 2002.
He was directly involved in the redevelopment of Goregaon-Siddharth Nagar through Praveen Raut. He was involved in the project from the conceptual stage till its execution, after which Rakesh Wadhawan was brought in to redevelop the Patra Chawl project through M/s Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd. Sanjay Raut included Praveen Raut as his proxy and confidant to control the project. Sanjay Raut's proxies received around ₹112 crore from HDIL in their bank accounts and further transferred it to acquire assets, diverting the said amount to his business entities, family members' accounts etc. Thus, Sanjay Raut is knowingly involved in the process of generating proceeds of crime and in the process of acquiring assets and transferring them to other entities.
Investigations have revealed that Sanjay Raut used huge amounts of cash while buying land in Kihim, Alibaug, which has been confirmed by some vendors. Sanjay Raut earns ₹1.85 lakh per month as an MP and ₹1 lakh per month when he works for Saamana newspaper. His wife, Varsha, is a teacher and earns a monthly salary of ₹80,000. It is also said in this charge sheet that Raut does not do any business except the above mentioned jobs.
