PUNE: An incident of theft of ₹50,000 from the bank account of a senior citizen was revealed by thieves threatening to cut off electricity. This fraud was committed by downloading the Team Viewer app and taking all the confidential information. A senior citizen has filed a complaint at Khadki Police Station. The thief contacted the mobile number of the complainant.

The thief pretended to be speaking from Mahavitran, saying the electricity bill needed to be updated. The thief then asked the senior citizen to download the TeamViewer app, pretending that the electricity would be cut off if the bill was not updated. Believing the fraudster's claim, the senior citizen downloaded the TeamViewer app through the link. After downloading the app, the thief took the confidential information of the senior citizen's bank account. By misusing this information, the thief withdrew ₹50,999 from the bank account of a senior citizen.

The senior citizen lodged a complaint with the police after realising that the money was debited from the account. Senior Police Inspector Vishnu Tamhane is investigating the case further.
