MUMBAI: The BMC presented a budget of ₹52, 533 crores today. This is the biggest budget of the civic body till date. In 2022-23, a budget of ₹45, 949 crores was presented. This is the first time in BMC’s history that the capital expenditure is more than revenue expenditure. The BMC has set up a special fund from which money will be spent on projects like roads, water pipelines, bridges, coastal road project, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, sewage treatment project, water supply project.
Important features of budget:
To prevent delay in ongoing projects, funds will be earmarked through internal temporary transfer. This is likely to happen through fixed deposits of ₹51,147 crores.
Beautification projects worth ₹1,729 crores will be undertaken.
Air purification machines will be installed at Dahisar toll naka, Mulund check naka, Mankhurd, Kalanagar junction and Haji Ali junction.
The BEST was allocated ₹1,382 crores in 2022-23. In 2023-24, a provision of
₹800 crores has been made.
Till March 31, 2023, 18 additional polyclinics, diagnostic centres and 131 Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray clinics are going to be started.
The BMC has undertaken ‘Arogyam Kutumbam’ programme to deal with blood pressure, diabetes and other non communicable diseases under the instructions of CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
From the next academic year, courses in electronics, artificial intelligence, fashion designing, coding, robotics, tourism and hospitality will be started. The courses may be started in 249 secondary schools
