MUMBAI: An in principle approval was given on Friday to increase the minimum taxi fare by three rupees and rickshaw fare by two rupees. This hike will come in effective from October 1.
Now the minimum taxi fare will be reduced from ₹25 to ₹28, while the rickshaw fare will be reduced from ₹21 to ₹23. A meeting of the representatives of Rickshaw and Taxi Associations was organized at the ministry in the presence of State Industries Minister Uday Samant.
The fare hike is approved by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Transport Authority (MMRTA). So after getting an approval in principle, the 'MMRTA' will give a final approval for the fare hike.
A senior officer of the transport department informed that a meeting of MMRTA will be held next week regarding the fare hike.
