PUNE: An incident has come to light in what can only be described as criminal negligence when a 10-year-old girl died after being struck by a high-voltage power line hanging over a terrace of a house. This incident took place in the Bopodi area of Pune. The Bopodi Police have registered an FIR against the owner of the house for this incident.
The deceased girl has been identified as Shubhra Ohal (10). An FIR of negligence has been registered against one Mehmuddin Magdoom, a resident of Bopodi. One Ganesh Arvind Ohal has lodged a complaint with the Khadki Police.
As per the information provided by the police, Ganesh Ohal has been staying in Pawle Chawl in Bopodi. He and his family are tenants of Magdoom, a local resident. Apparently, Shubhra was playing on the terrace of the house. Hanging over the terrace are high-voltage power lines. Before the little girl realised what was happening, she was struck by one of those carrier wires and collapsed on the spot. By the time the family noticed what had happened, she was already grievously injured. The family rushed her to Sassoon General Hospital in Pune. However, the police said that she died before treatment could be administered.
According to the complaint,
Magdoom owns a two-storey house in the area. Allegedly, the second storey of the Magdoom's house is an illegal construction,
which is compounded by the fact that high-voltage lines of Mahavitran run over his house. According to Ganesh Ohal's complaint, Magdoom had deliberately flouted rules by constructing a second storey despite knowing that overhead ran high-voltage power lines that could cause a serious accident. Therefore, Shubhra's father has lodged in his complaint that the accident occurred due to the irresponsibility of the landlord.
