PUNE: An incident has come to light wherein firefighters saved the life of a pregnant cow that fell into a 10-feet-deep pit. This incident took place in the vicinity of Kondhwa Khurd, Pune.
As per the information received from the fire brigade officials, a cattleman, Sunil Katke, a resident of Kondhwa had dug a 10-feet-deep hole that was to become a watering hole for his animals. Unfortunately, the watering hole was too deep for his cattle since the water level wasn't able to top up. So when one of his cows wandered over to the watering hole for a drink of water, she misjudged the depth of the waterbody and fell into that 10-deep-feet pit. As soon as Katke realised what had happened, he immediately informed the Fire Brigade.
A fire fighting crew rushed to the site post-haste. Since the cow was pregnant, the crew had to be extra cautious while rescuing the animal. The regular norm of slipping a rope around the cow to heft her out had to be abandoned. So a fireman lowered himself into the pit with the cow to calm her down before cinching a belt around the frightened, pregnant bovine and safely winching her out of the watering hole.
