Hoarding collapses in Pimpri Chinchwad; injures two youths, however major accident averted

PUNE: A few days ago, five persons died in Pimpri Chinchwad city,  when the hinges of an iron scaffolding of a hoarding came undone and crashed down at Kiwale. So, while that tragedy is still fresh in the memories of the citizens, another big hoarding came crashing down at the Laxmi Chowk Road, Hinjewadi Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjewadi in Pune,  around noon, yesterday.   Two youths were injured and were rushed to a local hospital.

As per information there are many unauthorised hoardings in the vicinity of Hinjewadi. However, sometimes the administration sweeps in and takes action against the said unauthorised hoardings; other times, justice is delayed if not completely overlooked.

In this instance, yesterday, between 3pm and 3.30pm in the afternoon, the hoarding on the road at the Laxmi Chowk in Hinjewadi IT Park collapsed right in the middle of the  road due to strong, buffeting winds.

Apparently, around noon yesterday, nature's fury was unleashed on unsuspecting commuters as the skies opened up and it began to pour down heavily accompanied by gale-force-strength  winds.

Due to which, commuters plying down that road stopped to take shelter beneath the hoarding. However, suddenly the hoarding collapsed. In the crash, four-wheelers and two-wheelers suffered heavy damage. In addition to this, a massive traffic jam was caused in the area, and it was compounded by a large crowd of onlookers who had gathered around to watch the rescue operation in progress.
