Prutha Vartikar and Jennifer Verghese win doubles title in table tennis

PUNE: Prutha Vartikar and Jennifer Verghese, who are contenders for the gold medal, opened the medal account for Maharashtra by winning the women’s doubles title in table tennis at the Khelo India Youth Games. What is special is the bronze medal was won by Tanisha Kotecha and Risha Mirchandani of Maharashtra. In the men’s doubles category, Jash Modi and Neil Mulye of Maharashtra won the bronze medal. 



In the women’s doubles category, since all players were from Maharashtra, it was certain that both medals will be bagged by the state. What remained to be seen is which pair emerges winner and by what margin. Prutha and Jennifer defeated Tanisha and Risha 13-11, 11-9 and 11-7. In the three games, the players from Maharashtra played a beautiful game by playing return shots, chops and counter attack and won the hearts of the audience.
