Jejurikars spill out on the streets and throw up road blocks in protest against the Martand Devasthan Trustee Selection

PUNE: Early this morning, DCN had reported that the citizens of Jejuri were up in arms about the fact that six of the seven trustees appointed as trustees of the Martand temple in Jejur were non-Jejurikars. Today, the citizens of Jejuri staged a protest by throwing up a road block the at Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk in Jejuri.  Post which, they garlanded the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar and indulged in sloganeering against these new trustees.

The citizens have demanded that all the trustees, except those who are residents of Jejuri, should resign.  It is said by the citizens of Jejuri that only the members of one political party were elected during the recently concluded polls. The locals have also alleged that there is political pressure in the selection.

The Jejurikars had earlier demanded that at least four members should be locals on the board of trustees. They believe they have made a valid demand considering that the non-Jejurikars had no clue about the local traditions, which causes many challenges. Sometimes, decisions have to be made on an urgent basis, however, if the trustees aren't local, it gives rise to umpteen issues. Therefore, the locals have demanded that all the trustees should be appointed by locals.
