Nine members of a wedding party brutally assault senior citizen, humiliated, he takes an extreme step at the Bund Garden Bridge, FIR registered against the nine

PUNE: A tragic incident has come to light wherein a senior citizen, who was humiliated after he was brutally assaulted by his neighbours because he had asked them to lower the volume of the speaker during their wedding celebration, took the extreme step and ended his life. An FIR has been registered against the nine accused, including the groom. 


The deceased victim who had been brutally assaulted by nine persons has been identified as Dnyaneshwar Mahadev Salunkhe (70), a, resident of Navi Khadki Yerawada. 


According to police reports, Dnyaneshwar Mahadev Salunkhe, a senior citizen was brutally assaulted and humiliated by a group of nine persons of a wedding party, including the groom, because he asked them to lower the volume of their sound system at the Haldi ceremony. 


Apparently, his neighbour, Chetan Belle, was getting married on Saturday and the sound system was disturbing the neighbourhood. That's when senior citizen, Salunkhe, stepped up to ask them to turn down the volume of their sound system. However, for his troubles, he was shoved around and brutally assaulted by nine members of the wedding party, including the groom. His son Pandurang Salunkhe, who tried to intervene to settle the dispute in a peaceful manner, was also assaulted and received grievous injuries when he was struck on the head with a chopper.  


An FIR has been registered against Chetan Belle, Pawan Gaikwad, Yash Mohite, Devesh Pawar — all residents of Khadki Yerawada — along with Hemant Wakade, Jai Balkumbhe, Sadiq Sheikh, Shah Rukh Sheikh, Sunny Dhumal — all residents of Jijamata Nagar.


Humiliated, Dnyaneshwar Salunkhe went to the Bund Garden bridge around 11.15pm and took an extreme step of jumping off the bridge.
