MSEDCL warns consumers about suspicious messages about pending bills

PUNE: Incidents of people getting fake SMSes, WhatsApp message and calls about pending MSEDCL bills are increasing. MSEDCL authorities have warned that the citizens should not trust any message sent from a personal mobile number and they should not download any app or click on any link sent with the message. Citizens can pay their bills on MSEDCL’s app and website www.mahadiscom.in.

Fake messages such as ‘Since last month’s bill has not been paid, your power connection is being cut today at 9.30 pm and contact on personal mobile number’ are being sent to many citizens. Some people are also receiving mobile calls. Those who don’t have anything to do with MSEDCl bills or those who have already paid their bills are also getting such messages. Those citizens who contact such numbers are told to pay pending bills only through the online mode by sending a payment link or told to download a particular software. Those who click on these links or download an app are duped by fishing money from their bank accounts.

MSEDCL has clarified that it does not send any SMSes and WhatsApp messages from personal mobile numbers.
